Printable-length checklists and the questions that separate a good vendor call from a sales pitch.
Before you call a vendor: a 10-question checklist
- What happens when a caller asks for a person? Where does the call go, and what if nobody picks up?
- Does it book into my actual calendar, and does it check the slot is free before confirming?
- What does it say when it doesn't know the answer? Ask for the exact wording.
- Can I hear a real call, not a demo? (Or run one yourself during the trial.)
- What is included in the monthly price, and what costs extra: minutes, numbers, seats, texts?
- What happens when I go over the included minutes? Get the overage rate in writing.
- How do I get my call recordings and transcripts, and how long are they kept?
- Can I keep my existing phone number? How does forwarding work?
- Is there a contract, a trial and a refund policy?
- Who do I call when it breaks on a Saturday?
Trial-week test script
During any free trial, make these five calls yourself from a cell phone and grade the results:
- Book the simplest appointment you offer.
- Interrupt it twice and change the day.
- Ask for a price on something that needs an estimate.
- Say "I need to talk to a real person" and refuse to continue.
- Call after hours with an emergency.
Our sister site AI Phone Test Lab runs a ten-call version of this against every provider and publishes the recordings.
